microloans
We’ve all been there – those seemingly small problems that happen at the most inconvenient times. You leave the store with an armful of groceries and for some reason your car won’t start. It’s the middle of the summer and your refrigerator goes on the blink. Your son was climbing the tree to retrieve his frisbee and now you are in the ER. For some people, these things are the difference between keeping their vacation plans or just opting to stay home this year. For others, these things have the potential to drain the little savings they have been able to scrape together, bringing a new level of stress into their lives.
It is for that second group of people that we have created a zero-interest microloan program. Oftentimes it is not that they can’t afford to deal with the new financial burden, but simply that they don’t have the cash flow to handle it all at once. A microloan can be the stop-gap that helps get to the end of an unexpected crisis with a minimal amount of damage to the financial stability of a household.
We are working with other trusted non-profits who identify folks they know could benefit from a zero-interest loan to get through a crisis, and who they feel will be able to repay the loan.
We love the microloan approach because it is the epitome of the economics of compassion – the money we use to help one person or family today will be used to help another person or family tomorrow.
